What are the Apex Australia Teenage Fashion Awards (AATFA)?
The Apex Australia Teenage Fashion Awards (AATFA) has been an annual event for Apex Australia over the past 17 years. In conjunction with secondary schools throughout Australia, Apex provides high school students with the opportunity to design, manufacture and model their own fashion garments.
The Apex Australia Teenage Fashion Awards is a unique opportunity for
students interested in the fashion or design industries to demonstrate their skill and flair through a friendly competition. The Awards are an extraordinary co-curricular activity, which offers students the opportunity and encouragement to explore their creativity in the fields of fashion, design and textiles.
The competition comprises of three key categories:
• Casual Day Wear
• Evening Wear / Ball Gown
• Fantasy Wear
How do the Apex Australia Teenage Fashion Awards benefit the participants?
To some participants the Apex Australia Teenage Fashion Awards is a boost to their confidence and self-esteem, as well as providing inspiration and the chance to grow. To others, it has been a stepping-stone into the world of fashion and design. Many past winners and finalists have progressed into the fashion industry, some to great heights, creating their own fashion labels while others have won scholarships to work in large fashion houses around the world!
H.E.L.P
Only a parent can know the mixed feelings of joy and fear when their children get their driver's licences.
On one hand is the pride of seeing your child grow up and reach milestones; on the other, the very real fear that they could be involved in one of the many car accidents involving young people on our roads today.
The 17 to 25 age group represents about 10% of licensed drivers across our country.
Statistics also tell us that about 16% of fatal and serious road accidents are in that age group.
The Apex clubs of Australia hope to do something to help reverse this frightening trend.
>From the 2005 National Apex Convention in Tamworth comes the opportunity to deliver a powerful message and road safety advice.
HELP, or Help Educate for Life Preservation, is a program which asks students to think about their driving habits, while giving them information to help them make smarter, more informed road choices.
The HELP program is the result of a concept designed out of a near tragic situation from the Apex club of Mackay.
An associate member, (and a son of a life member), was involved in a serious traffic accident and had to be cut from the vehicle he was travelling in.
Since then, Apex Queensland and Apex New South Wales have over the last three years successfully rolled out this proactive, young, drive safe program across various centres in both states.
The program takes only a day and is held within participating high schools with the assistance of police, ambulance services, medical professionals and vehicle mechanics.
Apex Australia has adopted the HELP program issuing a call for individual clubs take-on the opportunity to be pro-active in helping reduce the numbers of young drivers involved in serious traffic incidents.
We have all heard that the problem is too big, what can we do?
For the past 75 years Apexians have shown that we can make a difference, so during this, our 75th Anniversary, why not look not only at our collective achievements over the past 75 years but also to the years ahead, and HELP our youth embrace the future.
If you would like to know more about HELP and how you and your club can introduce this program in your community, telephone 1800 818 608.
